At my college we have a bulletin board inspired by PostSecret. One day a photograph of a sunset was posted. Written across the photo in white ink it said "sometimes I wonder if anyone would care if I didn't wake up in the morning".
A few weeks later another photograph was posted. This was a photo of a sunrise. In white ink it said "yes, I would". . . I wish I could tell the person "thank-you" because the sunset was mine.

After reading this, I sat for a while because it was profoundly moving. I wonder if the creators of this project ever imagined the effect they would have on others all through just sharing a secret on a post card.
That example really touched me also--although the website creates a great opportunity for people to anonymously disclose their secrets, I really don't think the creators though of how many readers they could move with these posts. I wish I had thought of it too, because I love to help people with their problems, and this is would provide me with a sublime opportunity to do so, just by letting people share their problems.
ReplyDeleteI agree that I wish I would have thought of this site. Some of the secrets can be extremely moving, and some make you grateful for your life. We should get a bulletin board at our school and do it :)
ReplyDeleteI really loved the example you gave about the sunset, it was deeply moving. I think we all sometimes feel that way, what if we didn't wake up, would anyone care, and reading that someone did, gives you more hope in humankind and helps you to realize that there are good, kind people out there and not people who are just out for themselves and what they can get.
ReplyDeleteWow that sunset and sunrise writing is amazing ..It would be so fun and interesting if we all did that in class one day I bet people would really feel good about themselves and be able to get their feelings across.
